Summary
In a sun-bleached township where porch boards creak like old confessionals, a laborer’s mason-jar fortune—every wrinkled dollar ironed by calloused hands—evaporates during the lull between cicada songs. Two jackal-grin drifters, smelling of rail-yard creosote, spirit the hoard away, unaware that Snooky, a half-pint sleuth with shoelaces always untied, has memorized the scuff on their boot heels. What follows is a dusk-to-dawn odyssey through hobo jungles, baptistery basements, and a shuttered dance hall where dust motes waltz like ghosts; the boy’s pursuit is less a chase than a childhood dismantled bead by bead, until the final coin—warm from a villain’s pocket—clinks back onto the kitchen table just as the banker lifts his knuckles to rap.
Synopsis
A father's accumulated funds for the payment of his mortgage vanish just previous to the landlord's collection call. The two desperadoes that steal the wealth are trailed by Snooky, and the funds finally are retrieved and the home saved.
