Black Paradise

James Callahan is a man trapped between his conscience and his empty pockets. In the fog-drenched streets of San Francisco, the 'reformed' thief finds that honesty doesn't pay the rent, leading him to snatch a diamond necklace in a moment of desperate weakness. Alongside his fiancée Sylvia, he flees to a remote South Pacific island, hoping to disappear into a tropical vacuum. However, the island is no sanctuary; it is the personal fiefdom of Murdock, a ruthless rum-runner who rules through intimidation. When Detective Graham tracks them to this isolated rock, the social hierarchy collapses. James finds himself distracted by Leona, a local woman, while Sylvia is forced to rely on the very man hunting them to survive Murdock’s advances. The tension simmers until a literal volcanic eruption forces a final, violent reckoning for every soul on the island.
