Home Cured

In the frantic world of 1920s domesticity, Home Cured centers on a man whose greatest enemy is his own imagination. Johnny Arthur stars as a chronic hypochondriac who has transformed his home into a sanctuary of self-diagnosed ailments, much to the exhaustion of his wife, played by Virginia Vance. The narrative takes a sharp, comedic turn when the wife and the family physician decide that conventional medicine is useless against a man who refuses to be well. They orchestrate an elaborate, theatrical ruse designed to shock him out of his lethargy. This 'home cure' involves a series of escalating, choreographed 'emergencies' that force the protagonist to abandon his phantom pains in favor of actual survival. It is a cynical yet playful look at the power of the mind over the body, where the solution to a fake illness is a very real, very terrifying dose of reality.
