Metropolis

In a sprawling, stratified future metropolis, society is rigidly bifurcated: the opulent planners reside in gleaming towers above ground, while the vast working class toils in subterranean factories, powering the city’s utopian façade. Freder, the privileged son of Joh Fredersen, the city's autocratic master, stumbles upon Maria, a charismatic prophetess from the workers' district, who preaches a message of reconciliation and anticipates a 'mediator' to bridge the chasm between the 'head' and the 'hands'. His burgeoning affection for Maria, and his exposure to the brutal realities of the workers' lives, propels him into a world of social unrest and technological manipulation, challenging the very foundations of his father's meticulously ordered, yet inherently unjust, empire.
