Pax Domine
Summary
In a provincial idyll ostensibly steeped in bucolic simplicity, Charlotte Brenner finds her heart ensnared by a sculptor, Jean, a man whose artistic soul resonates deeply with her own, despite her existing betrothal to the earnest, grounded farmer Pascal. Their burgeoning affection, however, blossoms under the ominous shadow of a devastating, unacknowledged truth: Jean, the very object of Charlotte's fervent, burgeoning passion, bears the crushing burden of having inadvertently caused the demise of her own brother. This labyrinthine tragedy unfolds with a cruel irony, weaving a tapestry of unwitting betrayal, profound moral quandaries, and the insidious nature of concealed guilt, threatening to unravel the fragile threads of nascent love and expose a raw, agonizing wound that transcends mere romantic complication.
