Summary
In the smoke-choked crucible of the American Revolution, two ambitious sparks—Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr—orbit the incandescent Margaret Reynolds, a Philadelphian wit whose salon is equal than a battlefield. Muskets crack, quills scratch, hearts throb: Hamilton wins the woman yet forfeits serenity, while Burr pockets resentment like a hidden stiletto. Years later, the men lock antlers again over a prickly post-war dilemma: should the fledgling republic compensate exiled Tories for seized estates? Ideology curdles into vendetta when Hamilton, now Treasury colossus, beds Maria Reynolds, beguiling spouse of Burr’s comrade-in-arms. The liaison detonates a scandal—Burr, smelling gunpowder, leaks damning letters; Hamilton’s credit collapses faster than continental scrip, Margaret’s loyalty frays, and a nation gawks as titans topple into notoriety.
