Summary
The narrative unfurls with the preposterous proposal of the indolent, absurdly wealthy Rollo Treadway, who, on a whim, decides to marry his equally privileged neighbor, Betsy O'Brien. Her swift rejection, however, only serves as the prelude to a series of bewildering misadventures.
