Summary
In a satirical collision of American industrialism and old-world mysticism, the comedic duo known as 'The Spats' find themselves navigating the treacherous social waters of a fictional kingdom. Their gambit for royal favor involves the ultimate symbol of 1919 modernity: a Ford automobile, shipped in a confusing array of crates direct from Detroit. The King, a man caught between primitive authority and a deep-seated dread of the 'mechanical beast' from Michigan, watches with mounting anxiety as the protagonists attempt to assemble the vehicle. What begins as a quest for status quickly devolves into a kinetic disaster. The film transforms from a social comedy into a frantic demolition derby as Tewksbury takes the wheel, leading to a destructive rampage through the kingdom. The narrative reaches a bleakly comedic climax as the protagonists are cast out by both the kingdom and their own nation, ending their journey in a literal descent into the watery depths, following their own anchor to the bottom of the sea.
