Biography
A Marseilles winter greeted Gus Leonard on 4 February 1859, and by the time the flicker of cinema arrived he had already spent decades on stages across Europe and America. Silent audiences later discovered his elastic face in Wurra-Wurra (1916), watched him guard a tarnished name in Her Reputation (1923), and caught him dodging carnival chaos in Coney Island (1928). Ninety years and seven weeks after that snowy French dawn, his own curtain fell in Los Angeles on 27 March 1939.
