Biography
Omaha, Nebraska, greeted William Bailey’s first cry on 26 September 1886. By the flicker of early cinema he had stepped behind and before the camera, steering action as both actor and director—memorable turns include the serial mystery *The House Without a Key* (1926), the moral tale *The Penitent* (1912), and the brisk domestic comedy *Hilda Wakes* (1913). Along the way he exchanged vows with three remarkable women: Alethia Hamilton Fadden, Mary Florence Cannon, and Polly Vann. His final curtain fell in Hollywood, California, on 8 November 1962.
