In the dusty, unassuming town of Rockett, Arizona, Jeff Daggett, a garage proprietor, finds himself perpetually distracted from the mundane realities of his business. His true passion lies in the relentless pursuit of innovation: a groundbreaking automobile motor, a project that consumes his every waking hour. This inventive obsession leaves the day-to-day operations to his capable assistant, Johnny Fox. A twist of fate arrives when President Holtwood, a titan of the motor industry, and his daughter Nadine, find their journey to California abruptly halted by car trouble near Jeff’s garage. This chance encounter provides Jeff with an unexpected platform to unveil his visionary engine. Impressed, Holtwood summons his chief engineer, Rexton, to evaluate the design. However, Rexton, perceiving Jeff not just as a professional rival but as a potential suitor for Nadine, dismisses the invention with thinly veiled contempt, instead challenging Jeff to a race. Before the contest can commence, Rexton’s vehicle is brazenly stolen by a highwayman. What ensues is a spirited pursuit, culminating in Jeff’s heroic confrontation and apprehension of the bandit. This decisive act of bravery and competence solidifies Jeff's standing, leading to Holtwood's offer of a coveted position within his company.
