In the arid hinterlands of the fictional nation Chilitina, an accidental discovery of a prolific oil reservoir ignites a cascade of greed, deception, and forbidden affection. The American corporation's calculating manager, intent on monopolising the newfound wealth, clandestinely caps the well and withholds the lucrative news from the rightful proprietor, thrusting the latter into an abyss of fiscal ruin. Offering a Faustian bargain, the manager proposes to settle the debts on the condition that he may wed the owner’s radiant daughter, a woman whose heart already beats for Monty, the unassuming office clerk.
