Summary
Peter Foley is a man driven by the desperate optimism of the 1920s, a decade where social mobility often felt like a shell game. Convinced he is about to secure his future by marrying a wealthy heiress, Peter makes a catastrophic financial gamble, passing a fraudulent check that threatens to land him in a cell rather than a mansion. Enter Julia Barry, a woman of quick wit and questionable timing, who intervenes by posing as Peter’s wife to deflect the law. The charade is immediately complicated by Peter’s genuine affection for Alice Blake and the looming presence of Bull, a motorcycle cop who is not only chasing Peter for his crimes but is also Julia’s actual fiancé. When a blizzard traps this volatile group—along with a treacherous 'friend'—inside a remote mountain lodge, the social performance collapses into a frantic survival of the fittest. The film transforms from a domestic comedy of errors into a claustrophobic farce, where every character must navigate a web of lies while the snow piles up outside.
