Three Thieves

In Yakov Protazanov’s sharp-edged 1926 satire, the boundary between criminal activity and high-society ambition is rendered practically invisible. Three Thieves follows the intersecting lives of a common street pickpocket, a suave social climber, and a powerful banker, each operating within a different tier of larceny. While the pickpocket is hunted for pennies, the socialite maneuvers through ballrooms with stolen charm, and the banker orchestrates grand-scale deceptions under the guise of legitimate finance.
