Transients in Arcadia

In the bustling, class-conscious milieu of early 20th-century New York, Mamie, a diligent shop-girl, dedicates a year of frugal saving to orchestrate a single week of high society masquerade. Her ambition: to infiltrate an exclusive summer resort, posing as an aristocrat, in pursuit of a 'Prince Charming' to elevate her station. Unbeknownst to her, Farrington, a collector for an installment payment company, harbors a strikingly similar aspiration, arriving at the same resort under a fabricated guise. Fate, with a mischievous wink, conspires to repeatedly entangle their paths through a series of increasingly comedic social mishaps. The charade, however, is destined to unravel, not amidst the opulent pretense of the resort, but back in the prosaic reality of Mamie’s workplace, where Farrington’s professional duty forces their true identities into the light. This abrupt revelation strips away their carefully constructed facades, paving the way for a genuine connection and an unconventional, yet heartfelt, journey to Coney Island for their honeymoon.
