Biography
Glasgow welcomed Lila Leslie on New Year’s Day 1890, and by 1913 she had stepped before the cameras for *The Third Degree*, igniting a screen career that flickered through the silent era into early talkies. Between bustling studios she slipped into the shoes of a socialite in *A Little Brother of the Rich* (1919) and traded quips in 1933’s *What’s to Do?* Off-set, she exchanged vows with fellow performer Joseph W. Smiley. Nearly four decades after her Scottish debut, her final curtain fell in Los Angeles on 8 September 1940.
