Summary
A gasoline-scented odyssey unfurls when Barnes—scion of an industrial dynasty—snaps the golden handcuffs of privilege, floors the throttle, and cannonballs into the bruised American landscape of the early thirties. Hoodlums strip him of velvet pockets, leaving only the stink of burnt rubber and a name that sounds like an engine backfiring. He descends among boxcar philosophers, campfire raconteurs, and nickel-hustling drifters who teach him that hunger can be a sharper tailor than Savile Row. From the rattle of freight cars to the roar of dirt-track circuits, Barnes stitches a new identity out of cigarette smoke, bootleg booze, and the restless hum of eight cylinders. The film pirouettes between slapstick derailments and soot-black fatalism, letting the camera linger on rusted grilles, rain-slick coal, and the phosphorescent grin of a man who has nothing left to lose but speed itself. When the checkered flag finally drops, the finish line feels less like victory than a dare to keep driving until the world itself runs out of road.
