Biography
March 24, 1873, a prairie town in east-central Illinois welcomed Charles Clary into the world; exactly fifty-eight years later, on the same calendar date, Los Angeles closed the curtain on his life. Between those two spring days he built a screen career that flickered most brightly in three early Hollywood landmarks: Joan the Woman (1916), The Rosary (1915), and the limb-amputation thriller The Penalty (1920). Off-screen he shared his life with Margaret Bechtel, his wife and steadfast companion.
