One Increasing Purpose

Sim Paris emerges from the carnage of the Great War physically intact but spiritually adrift. Returning to an England gripped by post-war materialism, he finds his family unit in a state of advanced moral rot. His brother Charles has sacrificed his marriage at the altar of financial gain, while his other brother lingers in a predatory vigil over a dying relative's inheritance, oblivious to his wife’s infidelity with a local doctor. When a malevolent nurse begins a campaign of blackmail against the straying wife, Sim realizes that the peace he found on the battlefield is absent in the domestic sphere. Inspired by the humble contentment of a former comrade, Sim undergoes a radical transformation. He determines that his survival was for a singular, divine reason: to act as a moral physician to a sick society. Alongside his wife, he embarks on a proselytizing trek across the English countryside, attempting to cure the nation's spiritual malaise through a radical doctrine of self-sacrifice.
