Biography
Before cameras ever rolled, Edward Connelly chased headlines for the New York Sun, sharpening a knack for spotting the drama in back-alley quotes and midnight police calls. At 25 he traded notebook for greasepaint, stepping into a Kansas City stock company and later lighting up Broadway in Shore Acres, The Belle of New York, Babbitt, The Wild Duck, and a self-produced venture, Marse Covington—an adventure he rewound for the screen in 1915. Westward bound, he signed with the young, hungry MGM and stayed on the lot until influenza silenced him in 1928, leaving behind a reel of wry smiles and silver-tongued elders that flicker still.
