Gilda, a woman deeply enmeshed in the criminal underworld, harbors a profound desire to shed her illicit past and embrace a life of legitimacy. Her aspirations for reform are constantly thwarted, however, by the tenacious grip of her former accomplices, who seem determined to keep her tethered to their schemes. In a desperate bid for a fresh start, she relocates to the burgeoning city of Hollywood, a new frontier promising anonymity and opportunity. Yet, the very shadows she sought to escape prove long and persistent, with her old gang inevitably following her trail.
