Biography
Steering clear of a medical career despite his father's profession, Raymond Hatton made his screen debut in 1909. His prolific career saw him feature in close to 500 cinematic productions. During the early silent film era, he forged an unlikely yet successful comedic partnership with the imposing Wallace Beery. However, it was his unforgettable portrayal of the 'tobacco-chewing, rip-snorting' Rusty Joslin in the beloved Three Mesquiteers series that truly carved his niche in cinematic history. His Western bona fides extended further, encompassing roles in the Rough Riders series and frequent stints as Johnny Mack Brown's reliable sidekick. His long ride into the sunset of the Western genre culminated, quite fittingly, with the 1965 film Requiem for a Gunfighter.
