Summary
A frantic choreography of matrimonial evasion and social subterfuge, 'Don't Ever Marry' dissects the volatile intersection of romantic impulse and patriarchal tyranny. The narrative engine ignites when Joe Benson and Dorothy Wynn circumvent the homicidal prohibitions of the eccentric Colonel Wynn through a clandestine union. Their intended sanctuary—a lush resort—metamorphoses into a labyrinth of blackmail and mistaken identity. The arrival of Barbara Dow, a predatory acquaintance wielding exposure as a weapon, forces Joe into a performance of domesticity that excludes his actual bride. The complexity escalates with the intrusion of Myra Gray, a divorcee whose presence summons an incandescently jealous ex-husband, casting Joe as a romantic interloper. Through a sequence of kinetic misadventures and escalating absurdities, the film navigates the precariousness of social standing, culminating in a surreal resolution where the Colonel’s own romantic awakening facilitates a belated paternal blessing.

Then Myra Gray, a divorced friend of Joe, appears, followed by her enraged ex-husband, who believes that Joe has stolen his wife's affections. Joe and Dorothy attempt to escape the ensuing chaos, and after a series of misadventures, the colonel becomes enamored of Myra and accepts his daughter's marriage.
