Biography
On 20 March 1865, in the Charlottenburg district that would soon be swallowed by booming Berlin, Hermann Picha drew his first breath. Fifty cinema seasons later, he stepped before the cameras to breathe life into a string of early-talkie classics: he played his part in the jaunty operetta whirl of *The Beggar Student* (1931), slipped into the comic turmoil of *Schneider Wibbel* back in 1920, and helped keep the rivalry fizzing in 1929’s *Die Konkurrenz platzt*. The curtain fell for the last time on 7 January 1936, still in the ever-changing city that had watched his career unfold.
